The male has red bare facial skin, shiny dark green neck with a white stripe at the end, chest dark brown with black details, cloak with the same details but with a lighter brown and white tail with black stripes. The female is almost totally homogenous with her whole body brown with black specks.

It is native to Asia where it is endemic, was introduced in various places of the globe where it is commonly used in hunting games.
