The male is a bird with bare red facial skin, his whole body with bright navy blue feathers, wings with a white stripe and tail with hard feathers with thin white stripes, the female has largely brown with some white details on the feathers.

They inhabit the mountainous regions of Taiwan with about 2000 to 3200 meters above sea level.
